Summary
My research examines education and health equity in the United States, using quantitative research methods. My work addresses the following questions. (1) How and why is economic inequality transmitted from parents to their children? (2) How is growing US economic and social inequality impacting population health? Examples of my research are displayed below.
Educational Mobility among the Children of Asian American Immigrants
This research examines a distinct education pattern among the children of Asian American immigrants in which parental education does not predict offspring's education, diverging from status attainment theory. The article is published in the American Journal of Sociology.

College-for-some or college-for-all?: Inequality in the Relationship Between Educational Expectations and Educational Attainment across Academic Achievement
This research examines the relationship between educational expectations and long-term education outcomes, finding that ambitious expectations more strongly predict education among adolescents with high achievement (e.g., high school GPA) than among their peers with lower achievement. The article is published in Social Science Research.

Race/ethnicity, Maternal Educational Attainment, and Infant Mortality in the United States
This research finds that African American women, regardless of education-level, are at higher risk of infant mortality than White and Mexican American women. Ancillary research points to the role of life course socioeconomic disadvantage and stress processes in the poorer infant health outcomes of African American relative to White women. The article is published in Biodemography and Social Biology.
