I am currently serving as a statistician at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), studying demographic patterns in substance use and mental health in the United States.
My research focuses on economic inequality and population health. Using quantitative research methods, my work examines inter-generational and early life determinants of education outcomes, racial/ethnic inequity in infant health, and the intersection between education and adult health. My current academic research focuses on the role of educational expectations in long-term education outcomes and the relationship between educational-degree completion with cardiovascular health.
I taught (as sole instructor) three undergraduate courses in the sociology of health, demography, and sociology of the family at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition, I served as primary lecturer for a statistics and programming course in a summer research program at the Carolina Population Center.
Prior to my current position, I served as a researcher at Fors Marsh Group and a postdoctoral associate at Duke University. I completed my Ph.D. in sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
When not working, you will find me playing tennis, baking, and (occasionally) performing stand-up comedy.
